IRS Error in Schedule D Tax Worksheet

It has come to our attention that the 2018 Schedule D Tax Worksheet Instructions contained an error. You can read more about it here.

The IRS is reviewing all returns that may be affected, and sending letters to those taxpayers, along with a follow-up letter of tax adjustment. They claim that most adjustments will be positive (resulting in a refund), however, in our office, we've already experienced two clients who have owed slightly more in capital gains tax.

If you receive a letter and/or an assessment, please forward a copy to our office for our files. There is no need to file an amended return, however, if there is a balance due, we would like to review it prior to having you submit payment. Unfortunately, the IRS has taken the stance of applying interest to the balances due, despite their error.

Please note our hours and office closures for the remaining of the year:

Off-season hours are Tuesday and Thursdays, 10am-3pm.

The office will be closed for the following:

October 21st through October 28th, 2019
November 22nd through December 2nd, 2019
December 20th, 2019 through January 6th, 2020
